Wisdom From John

Am I Important to God?
Have you ever wondered if you were important to God? Or, asked, "Does God really hear my prayers or am I just playing church to meet some internal psychological need?"

Most people really do want to believe there is a God, but what proof do we have of his existence? If God really does exist and he does hear our prayers, shouldn't there be some evidence of answered prayers in our daily lives? After all, if we are his child and we are important to him, shouldn't he be answering our prayers?

At one time or another we have all asked ourselves questions like these and have doubted the depth of our faith. As for me, when I need some reassurance of God existence, I fall back on a challenge given to me by an old friend. My friend said, "If you ever doubt the existence of God, just ask him to work a minor miracle for you and then watch to see what happens?"

Now, before you give me all the scriptures about not testing God, let me clarify my statement. This is not testing God or putting down a fleece because testing God is truly a no, no and shouldn't be done. No, this is not testing God; this is more like asking God for a hug.

Let me explain how this minor miracle stuff works. The first step is to humble ourselves to the point where we will ask God to use us for his glory. Did I just hear someone say, "Now, wait a minute; this might mean I'll be asked to do something I'm not comfortable doing." Will, that's right, but I thought we were looking for evidence of God's existence.
The second step is to pray, "God open my eyes and let me see the minor miracles you are performing in my life." Now, all there is to do is sit back and wait for the miracles to happen. Oh, and before someone asks, yes, God will part the Gulf of Mexico for us but only if we are leading the nation of Israel and the enemy's army is about to descend upon us.

So, what minor miracles were in my life this week you ask? Well, to list a few; there was the co-worker whose marriage is in trouble and God said, "Pray for him." There was an email from a total stranger thanking me for touching his heart. Then, there was the friend whose wife was put in the hospital and we just happened to need each other's assistance at work; we stopped worked and prayed for his wife. And, then there was another friend whose husband was just diagnosed with cancer and she had no one to pray with her.

This week God answered my prayer by using me to be the comforter for those who had no one else to pray for them. Bottom line, if you need a hug from God, ask him to use you and to work some minor miracles in your life. He will. All that is required of us is to ask and then to watch with an open heart. God truly does exist and he truly does care about us. We just have to get ourselves out of the way and let God use us for his glory.
